Guilty pleasures
June 20, 2007 on 5:15 pm | In My stupid life |
What can I say? I have a guilty pleasure that is almost too embarrassing to reveal. I love Hell’s Kitchen. It’s one those stupid FOX summer filler shows, allegedly “reality-based” (who really knows?) and full of screaming, freaked-out people.
The editing is so terrible that you never know, truly, how events really unfold. They splice and dice and create teasers to the next segment that never deliver. It’s truly horrible in every way. Including, the most horrible of them all, Chef Ramsey himself. The tyrant who presides over the show.
Evidently he is a perfectionist to the point of being painful to everyone around him … except the editing crew. I like to picture him standing behind the film editors, screaming at them to put this bit of film here or there. But I’m sure he doesn’t have anything to say about any of it. He is likely just as much of a pawn in the pseudo-drama as any of the “contestants.”
All this being said, it is the ultimate of junk food TV. Watch one episode, and you won’t be able to stop.

Your life isn’t stupid! And we all have our crap TV that we can’t live without. I won’t even go into my list - it’s way more embarrassing than Hell’s Kitchen, purely because of the sheer numbers.

Hi Julie,
Your life isn’t stupid! I admit I watch the show it amazes me that people stay and put up with that crap, is the prize really worth it? I have many other “reality” shows that I watch, what a life I lead!!

Hey Julie
You aren’t the only one with the summer guilty pleasures……My current one is So you think you can dance and Top Chef. But, I’m really only biding my time until Project Runway coems back out
This from me who swore up and down that I would never ever allow myself to watch reality tv. So watch away, I’m right there with you!

Good god, I am so glad we aren’t the only ones watching that trainwreck. Besides, watching Ramsey makes me feel like I don’t swear at all.

I’ve never watched this particular food show. It seems like food & reality TV go hand in hand though. Who can refuse a good show full of cursing and hot food though? :-p

Hi Julie
Yea! I just found your blog. Where do they get these people on Hell’s Kitchen & Top Chef? They have filthy habits! They scratch their noses, rub their hair, sweat into the food, and most of them smoke. How can they taste the food? They either have long stringy hair or bald sweaty, drippy heads. Are head bands baned? They are always touching some body part while cooking. The ladies should be on “What not to wear” and see Nick. I have been wanting to vent about this, but I can’t help watching. Makes the local fare seem dull.
